Around 30 different community groups are gearing up to take part in the returning Worcester Carnival.

The event is pencilled in for Saturday, July 6, with the theme this year being 'Celebrating our Heritage'.

This broad topic will allow the groups, made up of schools, community groups, businesses and dancers, to showcase their creativity, which could be interpreted globally or closer to home.

The carnival procession will be following the previous year's route.

To promote sustainability the organisers have welcomed the inclusion of bicycles once again.

This year's carnival is reliant on grants, sponsorship, and fundraising for financial support.

The event's major sponsor this year is Woodland View Care Home.

Sponsorship packages are still available for both small and large businesses.

The carnival will fundraise on the day through a traditional bucket collection.

The popular fair will also make a return to the family-friendly carnival.

A wristband system will be in place, and despite a slight price increase, organisers have said they aim to keep the event affordable.

One wristband will grant unlimited access to rides for children.

Another key feature of the event is the Carnival Village at Pitchcroft racecourse.

Traders will have the opportunity to set up stalls or pitches, selling artisan food, drink, and crafts, and showcasing their organisations' work.

The carnival will also be choosing its ambassadors for the year, with applications currently open for different age groups.

The celebration will extend into the evening, with entertainment at the racecourse featuring returning acts like tribute singer Blobbie Williams and cover band Blank Kanvas.

Organisers are also looking for volunteers to keep the carnival running smoothly.

Anyone interested in participating, sponsoring, or volunteering at the carnival can find information on the Carnival's website (worcestercarnival.co.uk), or an enquiry form by emailing info@worcester-carnival.co.uk.
