THE MBE awarded to Wyre Forest’s leading lady Elizabeth Mills for her services to the community has been sold on auction site eBay for less than £150.

The honour was sold by collector Rob Knight, of Kidderminster, who bought the MBE along with other medals at an auction featuring items from the late Mrs Mills’ estate.

Mrs Mills, who received the MBE in 1981 for her services to the local community, died on Wednesday, January 1 in Stourport.

Mr Knight said he had intended to keep the MBE before he realised there were no identification papers with it.

He said Mrs Mills’ mayoress medal was sold separately at the auction but he still had her council medals from her time as Wyre Forest District Council chairman.

Mr Knight’s eBay description said the item, which sold for £149, was an “original full-size MBE ladies medal presented to Mrs Elizabeth Mills of Kidderminster/ Stourport.”

The description added: “She was honoured by Her Majesty the Queen, being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the New Year’s Honours List for 1981.”

The auction finished after 41 bids on March 2.
