A WOLVERLEY garden designer and a team of Grubby Gardeners have raised £5,000 for charity by competing in a military-style obstacle course.

Ben Harrison, 23, completed the Dirty Dozen race, designed by ex-British Special Forces, in two hours and 15 minutes.

The team of 20 raised funds for Perennial, a UK charity supporting people who work or have worked in horticulture when they face adversity or need, as part of their 175th anniversary campaign.

Mr Harrison said: "I ran the first 10km confidently hitting every obstacle hard and avoiding queues. But when I hit 10km, I had 2km to go and seven obstacles left and got I cramp in both calves.

"Running was fine but jumping and climbing over the obstacles left me in agony. Fortunately, some of my team members caught up with me by this point so we hauled each other other the last obstacles to finish all together.

"The team has currently hit £5,000 in donations which is amazing but we're still hoping for congratulatory donations."

The race took place in Kent on Saturday and included barbed wire, high walls, water and mud.
