A RUGBY player will be swapping the pitch for the streets of London when he takes part in the
capital’s marathon this weekend, after only nine weeks notice.

Thomas Guest, who plays for Kidderminster Carolians, will change his rugby boots for trainers on Sunday to line up alongside the likes of double Olympic champion Mo Farah.

The 30-year-old was only offered a place on the marathon in February and has been racing
against time to make sure he is super fit for the challenge.

He will be raising cash for the Children’s Trust, a charity for youngsters with acquired brain injury, multiple disabilities and complex health needs, so he can do something for kids after becoming an uncle last year.

It will be the second time Mr Guest, a former King Charles I School pupil, has taken part in the marathon after tackling it for the first time four years ago.

“It’s something that I wanted to do again for personal reasons,” he said. “I went through a
list of charities to run for, at the time my sister and brother just had newborn babies, so I thought I would raise money for the Children’s Trust.”

He added: “I applied last May and never heard anything back, then I had an email out of the blue nine weeks ago saying there were three places available and would I like one.
I couldn’t pass up the opportunity so I went for it.”

Mr Guest said he had been preparing by running around Kidderminster and spending extra
time in the gym.

“I’m confident I will reach the finish line,” Mr Guest said. “I’m looking
forward it.” To sponsor Mr Guest visit
