Shelsley Mill to open for visitors
9:05am Wednesday 7th May 2014 in News
WORCESTERSHIRE'S only working water-powered corn mill will be open for visitors this weekend.
Shelsley Mill, at the foot of the Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb, was abandoned in the 1920s and left derelict until it was taken on by a small group of retired enthusiasts in 2006.
On Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11, the mill will be open from 10am to 4pm as part of a national open weekend.
Volunteers spent four years working hard to re-instate the old mill pond, renew rotten timbers and replace rusted iron work before the mill was officially re-opened in 2010 by Lady Alexandra Winnington and has since been producing its own wholemeal flour.
During the open weekend, visitors will be able to see a DVD presentation of the restoration story before touring the building while it is in full operation.
