RESIDENTS of Norton Road in Comberton, Kidderminster, were evacuated by police after a bomb was discovered.

The explosive device was found in a pile of metal brought onto the estate by a scrap merchant.

Officers from West Mercia Police cordoned off the road and surrounding areas, while bomb disposal experts removed the item and made the neighbourhood safe.

Members of the public were taken to St Chad’s Church community hall where they were given drinks and kept up-to-date.

After two hours members of the public were allowed back to their homes.

Superintendent Kevin Purcell, who is responsible for North Worcestershire, tweeted: “Norton Road, Comberton, Kidderminster this afternoon. Evacuation as device considered a potential threat. Military to remove. Not terrorism.”
