MANY young girls dream of pulling up outside their wedding or school prom in a horse-drawn carriage.

That dream became reality for 16-year-old Abby Anson thanks to her vintage vehicle-collecting uncle, Brian Hopkins.

Bewdley teenager Abby had asked Mr Hopkins if he could organise a carriage to take her to her year 11 prom as he has been collecting them for the past three years.

Mr Hopkins laid out a choice of 10 carriages on his front lawn, providing Abby with a wide selection.

Abby said: “My uncle has so many of them, so there would be lots for me to choose from.”

Mr Hopkins has been collecting horse-drawn vehicles, classic cars and steam engines for the past 30 years, so Abby knew he was the right person to ask about arriving at her prom in style.

“Everyone knows about the large collection of carriages my uncle has and my granddad also had great a love for them,” she said. “So arriving at my prom in one meant so much to me.”

Abby, a Bewdley High School student, took a ride in her chosen 1910 Sociable carriage on the way to her prom at Spring Grove House, in West Midland Safari Park.

Abby said: “I did pick a different one at first but as it was closed no-one would have been able to see my dress, so I went for my second favourite, where the hood could come down and, being blue, it also matched my dress."

Mr Hopkins has a large collection of vintage vehicles, steam engines, tractors and Model T Fords from all over the world, some of which he restores and sells on, as well as keeping several his own personal collection.
