AN EXTRA public event will be put on in Kidderminster by Worcestershire’s NHS to discuss the joint services review.

It will take place on Tuesday, July 3, from 6pm until 8pm at Kidderminster Town Hall and will outline six potential models for the future of hospital services in the county, of which two could see Kidderminster Hospital close.

People must reserve their places at the meeting and it was announced yesterday that Kidderminster’s first date, Saturday, June 30 was full to capacity.

The news sparked anger among people who had not managed to book a place. Some suggested the meeting should have been held at a larger venue such as the Glades Leisure Centre.

A spokesman for the joint services review said: "The new date has been added so everyone can get their voices heard."

Kidderminster resident Suzanne Butt, however, said: “The Glades has a bigger capacity, it feels like they are trying to stop people from getting to the meeting."

Michael Wrench, Parliamentary Spokesman for UKIP, said it had taken him two days and four emails to get through.

“It has been extremely difficult,” he said. “There is a great many people in Kidderminster and Wyre Forest who want to attend this event given the history with our A&E.

“It is great that they have put on the extra event so more people can now attend. I would advise people if they don’t get through right away to keep trying.”

At last night’s Wyre Forest District Council meeting, Independent councillor Helen Dyke revealed she had called the NHS to book a place at Kidderminster Town Hall and was later contacted to confirm her place in Bromsgrove.

“Luckily I emailed them and I now have my place at the Kidderminster meeting,” she said.

A second meeting date has also been scheduled at Redditch Town Hall after the first also hit capacity. The added date for the venue will be Tuesday, July 10, at 6pm.

Places at Kidderminster and Redditch must be reserved by calling Worcestershire NHS on 01905 733981 or sending an email to worcsnhsjsr@worcestershire. nhs.uk
