Bill Davis gave a most entertaining and interesting talk on his bike ride pilgrimage to Santiago de Compestela in Spain at the July meeting. The 1,000-year old pilgrimage to the shrine of St James in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is known in English as the Way of St James and in Spanish as the Camino de Santiago. More than 100,000 pilgrims travel to the city each year from points all over Europe and other parts of the world. Bill undertook the ride when he was 70 after a suggestion by his granddaughter. He cycled through southern France, across the Pyrenees and down to north western Spain. He shared the highlights of his journey and encouraged members to also make the pilgrimage, not necessarily by bike, but by walking or driving. He proudly showed his stamped ‘passport’ to prove he had successfully completed his journey. read more
