CITIZENS ADVICE WARN FAMILIES NOT TO BE LEFT OUT IN THE COLD

Wyre Forest Citizens Advice Bureau [CAB] is urging families using oil for heating to buy early to cut their costs this winter.

By stocking up now, families can make the most of lower costs before high demand in the winter pushes prices up.  Delivery times will be shorter as oil companies will often have spare capacity before demand picks up.  Ordering later can lead to slow deliveries especially in rural areas if we have snow.

Kate Bennett, Manager of Wyre Forest CAB, said: “Research by CAB has shown that 97% of people who joined a’ bulk buy’ oil club benefitted from lower prices and that there are several in the Wyre Forest and surrounding area.  Families should visit www.citizensadvice.org.uk/oilclubs  .  Families need only enter their post code into the oil club map. Even if someone does not join a club, it is worth clubbing together with neighbours to see if an oil supplier’s journeys can be reduced along with their prices.

She went on: “The last two winters have been mild and as oil is priced in dollars and the pound is now weakening against the dollar, it makes even more sense for families to buy as soon as they can.  If families want to set up their own club, the CAB can help.  Telephone our Advice Line on 03444 111444 or visit www.citizensadvice.org.uk/oilclubs  Families who need to use oil cannot easily switch suppliers or change payment methods but by acting now they can take more control of their heating costs so by forming or joining an oil club means lower bills”
