At some point in the near future, the European Union is planning a maternity pay bonanzer. The current UK pay entitlement to women on maternity leave is 6 weeks at 90 per cent of average salary, with another 33 weeks at a flat rate of £117.18.

Yet another expenses row making headlines today. Prime Minister Gordon Brown, is blaming it all on the system, saying,"The system doesn't work, I've said it doesn't work, it's got to be changed. We voted for change and that change has to come quickly." "The system's wrong it's not the way to work." Too right it's not!!

I find it very interesting that the reaction to most blogs (and from many people) is to produce negatives rather than alternatives, and even more rarely rational analysis. Is this another product of our Yah Boo two party political system?

The delicate processes of evolution have one extraordinary feature – it is clear that they can not stand excess, and whenever we create excess nature hits back with an antidote. Almost all major global ills can be traced back to us pushing the system beyond its toleration level. The current outbreak of ‘swine flu’ is widely thought to have been in some way caused by problems arising from a massive (excessive?) pig producing ‘Factory’. It is also suspected that over intensive battery farming has produced previous ‘epidemics’. The financial mayhem in the world today is clearly traceable to the building of huge and unsustainable levels of ‘artificial’ debt.

Primrose, I usually agree with just about every blog you post but I have to cross swords on this one as I agree entirely with the French when they say that the UK has caused this problem.
