BLOGGING 2010 from Hugh O'Neill

Posted on 9:46am Saturday 2nd January 2010

First may I wish everybody a better New Year? Despite all our pressing problems we have just celebrated the best Christmas ever. All the family has been home to stay and by the Sunday evening we had all thirteen at the table. It was wonderful. Then some of the family had to return to their homes but the remainder plus neighbours celebrated the New Year.

Resolutions

Posted on 12:06pm Friday 1st January 2010

There comes a point when every woman looks in the mirror and realises something needs to be done. On this note, I would like to announce that I hereby give up alcohol and chocolate for the entirety of 2010. I’m typing at 11.30am on the 1st January; so far so good [and Valium helps with the shakes] Gone are those nights alone with a bottle of chardonnay and a tin of Quality Street. I will start jogging again. I will go swimming, even in the public baths. I will walk places. I will hula hoop, and skip.

A Dad's Point-of-View - "What Does the First Year of Marriage Portend?"

Posted on 1:20am Wednesday 30th December 2009

We’ve just celebrated our first year anniversary and it raises the question of what does the first year of marriage mean? Is an easy and/or happy first year and better indicator of a good long-term marriage, or do some stresses and conflicts give you a better change to succeed, by learning how to work things out? I’m not sure there’s a simple answer.

Did I survive Christmas doing it the online way?

Posted on 10:13am Monday 28th December 2009

Well…! Yes and no! Of course, online shopping took the headache out of Christmas; I’m not going to deny that. Sitting at the computer and pressing a few buttons is far better than fighting over a car parking space before you even begin the fight in the shops! OK, so some folk are obliging round Christmas time and are in an excellent Christmas mood, where others can’t help but let the Mr Scrooge in them bubble to the surface. Problem is you don’t know which ones are the ‘Christmas Angels’ or the ‘Christmas Scrooges’ until you encounter them. And this is where the ‘no’ bit comes in…

A Dad's Point-of-View - "Christmas Trees, Menorahs, and Being Apart (on Christmas)

Posted on 3:23pm Tuesday 22nd December 2009

Christmas time is always both wonderful and difficult, especially when a family has different backgrounds. We are working things out, but this time on different continents.

I was just humming that song to myself in an attempt to be festive ... "Christmas time, Valium and wine ..."

A great day at the 2009 Classic Car Show (with Classic Caravans too)

Posted on 6:13pm Sunday 20th December 2009

I'm not a classic car enthusiast, but I did thoroughly enjoy my day at this show. The vehicles on display were picked from the very best that the clubs had to offer and it showed.

Santa was late for work,,,,,,

Posted on 2:23am Sunday 20th December 2009

around 9:30 this morning I was in Park City Mall, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I went to the mall for a cup of coffee and was surprised to find it quite busy this early in the morning. It was loaded with Christmas shoppers looking for the latest bargains. I got my coffee and made a beeline for the only seat I could find on an otherwise crowded bench.
