CANUTE COULD TEACH US ALL A LESSON

Posted on 1:37pm Friday 30th October 2009

Mark Garnier’s blog suggests that Gordon Brown is guilty of the worst display of hubris since Canute sat on the beach and demanded the waves recede. It begs some questions about Mark’s expensive Charterhouse education. He clearly needs a history lesson.

Is being an MP a good retirement job?

Posted on 10:52am Sunday 25th October 2009

The job of an MP is a fairly poorly defined one, but I think most MPs would agree that it is hard work, involving 6 days a week and very long and unsociable hours. That is why it is so surprising that our own MP, Dr Richard Taylor, announced in public at an Open Democracy event at County Hall recently that being an MP was “a jolly nice retirement job”.

CAMERON BINS BRITISH FREEDOMS

Posted on 6:08pm Saturday 24th October 2009

If anything reminds us why we need the Human Rights Act it is Tory Shadow Minister, Dominic Grieve’s disgraceful attack on the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer. Grieve claims that Starmer should be sacked for criticising David Cameron's plan to scrap the Human Rights Act, as though one of the top legal experts in Britain is not allowed to speak out when politicians attempt to destroy our freedoms. Protection from dictatorial politicians like Grieve and defending Starmer’s right to speak are exactly why the act exists.

BNP THREATENS BRITISH GENERALS WITH HANGING FOR IRAQ

Posted on 8:58am Wednesday 21st October 2009

The BNP's clearly can't take criticism. In a furious outburst against an open letter from British generals criticising the co-opting of Battle of Britain imagery to promote their political aims, the BNP leader, Nick Griffin suggested that they, like Nazi Generals after WWII might end up being hanged for their involvement in the Iraq war.

CHEAP BOOZE OFFERS ARE KILLING PEOPLE AND PUBS

Posted on 8:13am Tuesday 20th October 2009

Monday’s Alcohol Concern Report stated that 90,800 people will die avoidable deaths from alcohol-related causes over the next 10 years. Considering that around 35 pubs are closing every week, it seems unlikely that the nation's increased alcohol consumption is caused by them. One can only draw the conclusion that big retailers selling alcohol too cheaply are contributing to killing off both British pubs and British people.

ARCHBISHOP SAYS IT’S OUR DUTY TO PROTECT THE PLANET

Posted on 7:01pm Monday 19th October 2009

A few evenings ago, I met with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams who was giving the annual Operation Noah lecture on Climate Change. His message was simple; the fact that someone else isn’t pulling their weight is no excuse not to make the effort yourself.

WHAT “EUROPEAN PRESIDENT” ACTUALLY MEANS

Posted on 2:43pm Friday 16th October 2009

To suggest that the European Council President is going to dictate our laws or supercede our Prime Minister is quite simply untrue.

Who is really going to be in charge?

Posted on 3:48pm Thursday 15th October 2009

Who is really going to be in charge? UK Prime Minster (Elected by the People) or the NEW (Unelected) EU president !! With the Irish bullied into voting Yes to the Lisbon Treaty in a 2nd vote in just over a year, all because the first vote delivered a NO, which surprise surprise was not the answer the EU was looking for. Poland’s president has now signed the Lisbon Treaty, leaving the Czech Republic the only country left to ratify the controversial Treaty which is expected to happen soon even though the Czech constitutional court is still deliberating whether the Lisbon Treaty is compatible with the country’s constitution, with the chance of it ruling against the treaty doubtful, President Vaclav Klaus a staunch eurosceptic, who has compared the EU to that of the old Soviet Union is now under pressure to sign the Lisbon Treaty so it can be implemented for January 2010.

Posted on 3:30pm Tuesday 13th October 2009

While the news concentrates on house prices, thousands of people are losing their homes altogether. The Liberal Democrats have voted in a plan by Vince Cable MP to get councils building housing again and to change the way in which mortgage lenders treat customers in trouble.
