Born into the farming community in Cookhill, Worcestershire, I attended the village school and went onto Redditch County High. I passed for university but home circumstances were not amenable. I joined the 8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars, trained as a tank driver and was sent for two years to a far eastern hell-hole which I have never ever wanted to see again.
Aftert demob, I joined Birmingham City Police - now part of West Midlands Police - but at that time salaries were poor and I was tempted away by industry. I obtained a degree - BA in Management - and worked as a management consultant and formed my own business 12 years ago. I am a keen lover of nature and a committed conservationist.
