Miller Homes has retained its position as one of the industry’s most sustainable house builders following the results of the 2012 NextGeneration benchmark.
The assessment is the only one of its kind that ranks the performance and commitment of the UK’s top 25 housebuilders in delivering sustainable homes and communities every year as well as their general performance as a company in relation to sustainability.
Each housebuilder is assessed across a number of different categories, from strategy to stakeholder engagement and energy to ecology, and compared against a specific benchmark as well as having the opportunity to compare themselves against their industry peers. The assessment is designed to encourage better investment, policy and strategy in the delivery of sustainable homes and to share best practice in sustainability.
Miller Homes has achieved a top ranking place for the fifth consecutive year, with an overall score of 76% in 2012, as an increasing number of housebuilders switch on to the benefits of sustainability.
Chris Endsor, Chief Executive of Miller Homes, said “Sustainability is a key aspect of our business and we are delighted to maintain our top three ranking within the NextGeneration benchmark and our position as one of the industry leaders within this area.
“We recognise the important benefits sustainability offers us and we are continually looking for ways in which we can enhance this further. The NextGeneration benchmark not only validates the good work we are undertaking, but also allows us to identify how we can further develop and continue to grow this area of our business.”
Philip Hirst from NextGeneration added: “NextGeneration is the most demanding assessment of a homebuilders’ commitment to sustainabiity and Miller Homes are to be commended on retaining their top three position in the 2012 benchmark. Along with other homebuilders participating in the benchmark, Miller Homes is helping to drive sustainability into the heart of the home building sector.”
NextGeneration was launched in 2006 with the objective of being an industry-driven initiative to drive best practice in sustainability into the heart of the residential development sector.
A membership-based benchmark, NextGeneration includes many of the UK’s largest house builders and is overseen by a high level executive committee of the WWF-UK and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
