WYRE Forest residents looking for some outdoor summer entertainment should head to Harvington Hall for its annual festival.

The extravaganza kicks off next Friday with a classical concert in the hall’s great chamber at 7.30pm. It will feature works by Tchaikovsky, Bach, De Falla, Tarrega and Bantu.

There will be Elizabethan dancing in the gardens on the following day from 1pm until 4.40pm while the Crown Phoenix Big Band and Singers will entertain music lovers from 6.30pm until 9pm.

The curtain will rise on Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, when it is staged outdoors by the Crescent Theatre Touring Company. It will be performed on July 18 and 19 at 7pm and July 20 at 3pm.

Sherida Breeden, hall manager, said: “The festival has always been very successful. Due to the flooding and rain last year we had to cancel a few performances which was very disappointing. We are hoping for better things this year.

“I’m sure this year’s event will be successful. We have had a great response from the public and have sold a lot of tickets.

“Most of the events are outdoors and our gardens are big enough to accommodate everyone so I’m sure it will be a great event.”

She added that all proceeds from the Elizabethan dancing in the gardens event will be donated to the National Gardens Scheme.

Tickets are available by contacting the hall on 01562 777846.
