Record label up and running

A KIDDERMINSTER music mogul’s quest to get female-fronted bands more exposure has led him to set up a record label.

Dave Smith started managing bands through Ravenheart Music two years ago as he felt there was prejudice against women in rock and heavy metal groups.

He has now set up his own label, RMS Records. Albums released through RMS will be distributed by Aylesbury-based Code7 Distribution, with input from Crash Records UK and Casket Records.

Ravenheart Music started as a hobby, in between Dave’s job as a meteorologist, but he said the company had “gone from strength to strength”.

Dave explained: “Since setting up Ravenheart I have opened up a very nice can of worms. So many bands and companies have been interested in getting involved. I can be sitting at my PC and the emails will just keep dropping in.

“Someone at Crash UK suggested the company is probably bigger than I think it is. It’s all due to the power of the internet.”

Dave is currently promoting Kidderminster band, Oak, who have attracted interest from labels in America. He also helped Idaho-based band, Rott, get a record deal with American label, Renaissance Records.
