TWO Kidderminster choirs with a “lively brother and sister relationship” will team up for an exciting concert.

The Kidderminster Valentines and the Kidderminster Male Voice choir will sing at the town hall on Saturday, kicking off the Valentines’ spring concert season.

The event will be supporting the Motor Neurone Association and helping Wyre Forest homeless charity Night Stop.

It will see about 120 singers combining to delight audiences with the rich resonance of the male choir and the beautiful harmonies of the female Valentines choir.

Musical director Pam Cunningham said: “We like singing with the Kidderminster Male Choir. If it was not for them, we would not be singing.

“They gave us our first performance which was on Valentines night in Broadwaters in 1988 so there has always been a lively brother and sister relationship between the choirs. Like us, the men have gone from strength to strength so this concert should be great fun and it’s guaranteed to send people home with a song in their heart and a smile on their face.”

The night will include songs by Dusty Springfield, Abba and Diana Ross. There will also be a performance of World in Union in celebration of the 2012 London Olympics.

Kidderminster Male Choir plans to perform classics such as Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, Is This The Way to Amarillo by Tony Christie and What shall we do with a Drunken sailor.

The Valentines have also requested audience members bring a packet or tin of food for the Night Stop charity which helps provide accommodation and support for young people.

Judith Ford, project co-ordinator at Wyre Forest Night Stop, said: “The Valentines have been giving us donations of food so we have been able to help young people who come to us.

“We can help the youngsters with a starter pack for when they move in with their supervisors. It has been really helpful and we thank them for their support.”
