21st century makeover for children's rhymes
RED Star Drama Group will be performing a series of nursery rhymes as part of the Discover Bewdley Weekend.
The group, made up of eight to 13-year-olds, was set up by Becky Lock, of Dry Mill Lane, Bewdley, in 2006.
The youngsters have been split into six groups of five to perform nursery rhymes in a play called A Play on Verse.
Each group have devised their own take on their nursery rhymes and have come up with scripts, made their own costumes and organised sets and props.
Miss Lock, 18, said: "For some of the kids this is one of the most demanding things they have ever done. They have really risen to the challenge.
"They are always willing to put in extra rehearsals and wanting to improve their work. I am extremely proud of them all."
The plays will be performed in the outdoor venue the Green Theatre, in Jubilee Gardens, on Sunday at 2.45pm.
Bewdley Museum is also gearing up to join the town in the annual celebrations with a host of activities.
Central to the museum's events will be a special performance by Tiggerty Boo for the opening of the museum's second world war air raid shelter.
Monica Rees, Bewdley museum education officer, said: "This is a really exciting event for the town when the community works together to provide a fantastic weekend for everyone."
Various other activities will take place in the museum and Jubilee Gardens throughout the event.
The full programme can be viewed at www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/museum.
A Discover Bewdley events guide is available from the town's tourist information centre on 01299 404740.
