TALENTED singers are being sought to show off their skills in a contest where a top trophy is up for grabs.

The 2008 challenge for the trophy will be held at the Kingsford Club, Sladd Lane, Wolverley, on Friday, May 9. It is open to solo vocalists of any age or genre.

The talent show, organised by Bewdley businessman, David Hughes, of Academy Management Group, is attended by vocalists all over the UK.

Several of its contestants have gone on to achieve success in the entertainment industry.

They include, Kim Southwick, who reached the final televised stages of The X Factor last year and Natalie Grace Chua who is a member of X Factor judge Simon Cowell's classical music group, Angelis. The six-strong group has had a number one album in the UK.

Natalie, who hails from Milton Keynes, has donated trophies for the show, which she will be presenting. She will also be performing on the evening.

Beth Sherburn, 17, a previous winner of the contest, from the West Midlands, will be guest judging and performing on the night, while West End tenor, David Lawrence, will present the show.

Mr Hughes said: "This is a talent contest open to solo vocalists of any age or genre and we are particularly interested in increasing the local contingent."

As well as trophies there will be cash prizes and other rewards for the finalists.

Everyone who applies to take part in the contest will be offered free space on the Academy Management Group website.

People who are interested in taking part in the show can contact Mr Hughes on 07891 454030 or e-mail dave@academymgt.co.uk Alternatively, log on to the website at www.academymgt.co.uk
