BEWDLEY Methodist Church will hold a celebratory recital this weekend after completing their fundraising campaign to refurbish the church organ.

The refurbishment of the church organ – thought to be almost 200 years old – has now been completed after £9,000 was raised in less than three years to fund the work.

Two thirds of the money was raised by a “Sponsor a Pipe” scheme and the balance was met from various grants and donations. Pipe sponsors have come from all over the UK and support has even come from Australia and New Zealand.

Supporters of the project have been invited to a celebratory recital on Saturday (April 23), when a plaque recording all the people and organisations that supported the appeal will be unveiled by the Deputy Mayor of Bewdley, Councillor Philip Edmundson.

The recital will be given by Bartosz Thiede, organ scholar at Exeter College, and the programme will include works by Bach, Brahms and Russian composer Georgi Mushel.
