VISITORS can immerse themselves in an exotic culture when Bewdley Museum reopens its doors next month.

The museum opens again at 10am on Saturday, March 3 and hosts a free, 19th Century East Asian Collection exhibition.

It will showcase a wide variety of ancient relics, martial art performances and traditional music.

Origami birds created by Jo and Kate Deburg from ‘Planet Art’ will be on display in the foyer, while the main exhibition will feature Japanese hanging scrolls and jade carvings that will give visitors a taste of the Orient.

Throughout the day Taiko drumming performances, weapon demonstrations and Jujutsu skills will be showcased too. The Shambles Café will also re-open its doors with an East Asian theme alongside their normal menu.

The East Asian Collection will run until Monday, May 7 and for more information people can visit www.bewdleymuseum.co.uk/reopening.

Councillor Juliet Smith Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said: “I am delighted that the museum will be reopening with a traditional East Asian theme.

“The collection will give visitors a real authentic flavour of Japanese and Chinese culture and I am sure that the exhibits will prove fascinating.

“From a cultural point of view, Wyre Forest offers a great deal for its residents, and the museum has gone from strength to strength.

“I am excited about the programme of events planned for 2018 and I am sure that visitors will enjoy everything that the coming season will offer.”
