AN array of colourful floral and vegetable exhibits greeted judges at the annual Bewdley and District Horticultural Society Show.

The two-day event, which included crafts and domestic classes, was hailed a success by organisers after attracting a record number of visitors to St George's Hall.

Society publicity officer, Diane Chater, said: "The number of entries was slightly down due to our very hot summer but there were still some first class entries in both the flower and vegetable classes."

Gill Gray exhibited for the first time in the show, on August 12 and 13, winning the Bewdley Council Rose Bowl.

In the young people's section. New exhibitor, Natasha Morris, came away with a first for her posy.

Other trophy winners were Eileen Fletcher, who received the George Williams Cup, the Frank Hayden Cup, the Norman Webb Cup, the EA Hughes Memorial Cup and the Banksian Medal.

Ron Marsh walked away with the CRG Farmer Cup, the Clift Cup and Alston Cup, while Robert Sherriff won the Frost Cup.

Sheila Bishop received the Mrs CRG Farmer Cup and Janet Ince won the HC Styles Cup for her floral art.

In the children's classes, Natasha Williams received the rosette in the 11-16-year-olds class and Megan Williams won the rosette in the under-11s category, as well as the Hollows Nursery Cup.
