BEWDLEY singers joined other Got 2 Sing choirs to raise more than £50,000 for the Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer (LFBC) charity.

The Bewdley Got 2 Sing choir performed at a sell-out concert at the Birmingham Symphony Hall.

The concert of popular classics and songs from the musicals was compered by ITV presenter Bob Warman and Lord Digby Jones who highlighted the importance of the LFBC charity.

Beth Dunn, founder of Got 2 Sing, said: “It was a monumentally successful concert. We have been absolutely overwhelmed with messages praising the professionalism of the performance and, with a number of choir ladies actually fighting the disease, it was such a relevant charity for us to support.

“It was an amazing experience for everyone and we are stunned by the amount of money raised, so a repeat is definitely on the cards.”

Maggie Patten, of the Bewdley choir, said: “It is something that will live with me for the rest of my life. To sing on stage in front of 2,000 people for such a wonderful cause was beyond my wildest dreams. Joining the choir is the best thing I have ever done.”

Choirs from Bewdley, Stourbridge, Wolverhampton, Worcester, Hereford and Ludlow were joined on stage by Wyre Forest performers Russell Painter and Sara Weaver, baritone David Stout and sopranos Cath Fish and Beth Hippard.

A flag waving audience participation proms finale rounded off the evening.

Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer was established in 2000 by a group of volunteers from the Birmingham area with the aim to raise funds and awareness of the disease.

Everything raised by the charity goes directly to the Queen Elizabeth Cancer Unit in the form of equipment.
