A YOUNG folk artist who quit university to pursue a career in music will be performing in Stourport.

During her second year of a Russian degree at Oxford University, Hattie Briggs decided her calling was music and subsequently left. But following her career to date, she seemed to make the right choice, having released three consecutive singles which made it into the iTunes charts, receiving 10,000 Spotify plays, and 50,000 YouTube views all on her own.

But now, the folk artist has teamed up with Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman, BBC Radio 2 Folk 2013 award winners, who are currently touring supporting their latest release Tomorrow Will Follow Today, and will be at Stourport's Civic Centre on Saturday, April 25.

Opening for the duo, Hattie is also performing in support of her own latest release, single A Beautiful Mind, which was written about legendary folk artist and political activist Pete Seeger, who passed away shortly before the BBC's 2014 awards where his half-sister movingly spoke about him.

She said: "I was inspired by her words, especially when she mentioned something that Pete used to say, 'he didn't write the songs, he only wrote them down'. I put these words in my song, which fittingly came together very easily in the space of just a couple of hours."

Both the solo artist and the duo will be on stage at the Civic Centre from 8pm. Tickets costs £12.50 in advance, or £15 on the door o the night. For more information, visit thecivicstourport.co.uk.
