A VILLAGE band will celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special concert in St Mary’s Church, Alveley.

The Alveley Village Band has played a leading role in the musical life of the village, since its formation by Colin Jones MBE in 1990.

To celebrate their anniversary, the band will hold a Silver Concert at St Mary’s Church on Saturday, July 18, at 7.30pm.

The concert will trace the bands history, looking back at what has gone before but also forward to things to come.

It will be led by the band’s new conductor, Australian-born, Sandra Horne, who took over the role from Iain Masson, who stepped down as musical director after 10 years.

The concert’s programme will include works by Nicholas Jones, Judith Weir and Vaughan Williams.

Tickets for the concert are £7.50 for adults and children and students can attend for free, and will include a glass of wine or fruit juice. Tickets are available from the St Mary’s Church and Alveley Post Office.

They are also available from Andrew Crabtree on 01746 780478 or band secretary, John Davies, on 07914 397477.
