A KIDDERMINSTER singer songwriter will play a special hometown gig to celebrate the release of his new album.

Ian Passey, who records and performs as the Humdrum Express, will take to the state on Friday (May 27) at the Boar’s Head to promote the launch of his fifth album, the Day My Career Died.

Known for his high tempo lyrical style that mixes wit and social commentary, the Humdrum Express has been regularly championed by broadcasting legend Steve Lamacq over the past couple of years, with fellow presenters Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson also airing some of his work.

He has gigged extensively during that time including dates with John Cooper Clarke, the Wedding Present, Bob Mould, Half Man Half Biscuit, Miles Hunt and Ian McCulloch.

No stranger to the Kidderminster music scene, Ian had been playing in bands in the area for many years prior to becoming the Humdrum Express. The album is the culmination of two years’ work alongside highly regarded producer Mick Lown and the release precedes a string of summer festival dates.

Ian will be joined at the Boars Head with special guests Vix and her MsChiefs – fronted by Vix Perks from 90’s chart stars Fuzzbox – along with Flying Ant Day and Jess Silk.

Entry is £3 on the door, with the live music beginning at 8pm.
