STOURPORT-on-Severn Brass Band will be appearing at the Civic to perform an evening concert of music to suit all tastes, joined by some special guests.

The band will be joined on stage talented musicians, playing ukuleles and strings, and singers from Stourport High School and VIth Form College.

Performing arts at Stourport High is known as the life and soul of the school, with students having opportunities to learn instruments, take part in a range of clubs such as SHS Singers and SHS Band. Students have most recently taken part and performed in the successful school production of "Bugsy Malone".

Under the baton of Oliver Wilson, musical director of Stourport-on-Severn Brass Band since 2013, the band has recently returned from the West Midlands Area Brass Band Championships and received confirmation that following the success of its performances over recent years, will be promoted to the second section from January 2018.

Mr Wilson said: "The band is delighted to be performing with the young musicians from Stourport High.

"Engagement with music at a young age must be encouraged and nurtured, it provides a focus and opportunity for expression, engagement with others and promotes artistic culture.

"We hope this concert is one of many to come."

The concert on Saturday, May 13, starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets - priced at £8 for adults and £5 for under 18s - are available from the Stourport Civic box office on 01299 823339, or call Jo Foskett on 07902 016539.
