THE monthly Music in the Hall series is set to end the year in spectacular style with the launch of Black Country blues and folk musician Sunjay's new album.

Music in the Hall in 2017 has featured high-class headline performances by North Atlantic artists including Amanda Rheaume, Lynne Hanson, the Cherry Bluestorms, Chastity Brown and Sari Schorr, plus UK headliners including Emily Barker, Remi Harris and Pete Williams.

But, the ultimate show of 2017 at St George's Hall, on Friday, December 15, features the launch of the new album by local favourite, musician Sunjay.

Since Sunjay's last release - 'Black & Blues' - in 2015, he has played Buddy Holly in the touring theatre show, Buddy Holly and the Cricketers.

UK-wide, Sunjay wore the horn-rimmed frames, the dinner suit, bow tie, talked Texan and traded in the acoustic guitar for a Fender Stratocaster.

Sunjay has always been a big Buddy Holly fan and his new album takes him back to his musical roots.

In fact, the first song Sunjay learned to sing and play was Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue and being in the stage show gave Sunjay the opportunity to sing some of his favourite numbers night after night, in front of hundreds of people.

Having worked up a great repertoire of Buddy Holly songs, Sunjay was inspired to record the aptly titled 'Sunjay Sings Buddy' - also featuring some of the stage show band members, who have become firm friends.

The new album, 'Sunjay Sings Buddy' will be launched with this full at St George's Hall on December 15.

Doors open at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the show have been selling fast, with only limited numbers available.

The Music in the Hall series is set to return to the stage in 2018, with the first show on Friday, January 26 - an intimate evening with Jo Harman.

On the night Jo will be supported by Esther Turner and Melody Blue.

Tickets for the January show are now also available from the Hall Cafe and online.
