HUNDREDS of talented youngsters will be hoping to capture the success of the movie Mamma Mia with a show next month.

More than 300 pupils from schools in the “Wolverley pyramid” will take part in a concert of Abba songs at Wyre Forest Glades Arena.

The show will start with three of Abba’s hits sung by the combined primary school choirs.

Instrumental work taught in school lessons will then be followed by a performance from Wolverley CE Secondary School’s Up 2 Date Band.

The finale will be a spectacular performance of seven Abba classics performed by the whole ensemble.

Tickets are selling fast for the concert on Monday, March 30 at 7pm, and organisers expect the arena to be filled to its 1,100 capacity.

“It will be a fantastic night,” said Fred Mallinson, who is in charge of music at Wolverley CE Secondary School.

“We have done concerts here in the past and the audience has been blown away by the sheer sight and sound of 300 children singing on stage.

“We have got some really exciting special effects including giant screens and pyrotechnics, all in the spirit of Abba’s style and music.”

Wolverley CE Secondary School receives government funding to promote music as a specialism, which is helping to pay for the concert. Additional funds have been provided by Wyre Forest district councillor, Gordon Yarranton.

Mr Mallinson added: “We are delighted at the donation, which will add that extra sparkle to the evening.”

The other schools involved are St Mary’s CE Primary, St Catherine’s CE Primary, St Oswald’s CE Primary, Cookley Sebright Primary and Wolverley Sebright Primary.
