Kevin McHale has revealed he wishes he could participate in the games on Virtually Famous.

The Glee star returns to host the E4 show, which sees Chris Stark and Seann Walsh as team captains.

“In every episode of this series, there’s been a challenge that I have wanted to do and participate in but I couldn’t. We just throw Chris Stark into everything,” he said.

Kevin, best known for playing wheelchair-bound Artie Abrams in the Golden Globe-winning series Glee, admitted being host isn’t always easy.

“I’m having a great time doing it, and it’s been a lot of fun. It can get a little out of hand, but that’s part of the charm of the show,” he said.

“We have introduced a physical section to the show, so all the panellists get involved in some sort of physical challenge. For better or for worse, the panellists are always up for it and they are sometimes painful.”

He added: “It’s fun, just sitting there and watching everyone – it is so funny. I do sometimes forget I’m supposed to be in charge and control the show.”

Kevin joked that the rivalry between Chris and Seann has hotted up in this coming series.

“They do seem calm and cool backstage, but I think secretly they do want to win. Particularly more in this series,” he said.

“I think last series, Seann was like, ‘I don’t really care’ but I think he’s more invested this time, and he’s actively trying to participate in the games. There’s a lot of good material for jokes and ammunition.”

The 26-year-old star also revealed he felt sorry for Hollyoaks actor James Sutton, who makes a guest appearance on the show.

“I felt so bad for James Sutton because we threw him to the wolves and he had no idea what the show is like, and he’s just a nice guy. But I think he had a blast,” he said, before adding: “Stacey Solomon and Rob Beckett are all coming back. Jimmy Bullard is incredible, insanely great. I can’t say enough about him.”

The second series of Virtually Famous returns to E4 at 10pm on April 13.
