Olivia Williams has confessed spending time in Hollywood makes her think about having cosmetic surgery.

The 46-year-old British actress plays an ambitious mother who manages her actor son in David Cronenberg's new film about the dark side of Hollywood, Maps To The Stars, and admitted she felt pressure to look a certain way in Los Angeles.

Olivia revealed: "There's a moment when I've been in LA for long periods of time when you look in the mirror and go, 'Maybe just a little lift...'

"And I think you can always tell English people fresh off the boat because they've got horrible toenails. T here's this thing where your standards start to change and normality is lifted, and toenails are naturally burgundy and that's the moment when you know you have to go home!"

The film also stars Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska, Julianne Moore and John Cusack as Olivia's character's psychologist husband.

John admitted he identified very much with the themes of the movie, and pressure on people in Hollywood to look eternally young.

The 48-year-old actor revealed: "I think, I guess this is not specific to Los Angeles, but Wall Street has decided that the best way to sell things is to a certain teenage demographic, so it seems like it's gotten even more youth obsessed. And yet people don't start to get interesting until they're in their 30s, because we're so stupid in our 20s, or at least I was...

"A beautiful woman came up to me at a premiere, I thought, 'Great!' and she goes 'You're my mom's favourite actor!' That was kind of a hard one to take!

"But everything's getting younger and younger and younger.

"Hollywood is getting so youth obsessed it's getting to the point where it doesn't feel like there's room for people who are at the ripe old age of 40."
