THE tragic story of Romeo and Juliet will be performed in the open air at the Bishops Wood Centre in Crossway Green.

Folksy Theatre will be performing the Shakespeare production on Tuesday, August 6 and audience members are encouraged to bring along picnics, blankets and folding chairs.

Set amidst the May Day celebrations, it will be Romeo and Juliet as you’ve never seen it before. The production promises to be filled with live music, dance and drama.

Using minimal set, Folksy remain true roots of open-air theatre, relying mainly on the natural beauty and surroundings each outdoor space has to offer.

John Rhymer, head of centre, said: “This is the third year that we have hosted a production of Shakespeare.

“The stage on our campsite with its backdrop of trees and the dome home is the perfect setting for an outdoor production while the field is an idyllic area for a summer evening picnic. Hot and cold drinks will be available before and after the performance and during the interval.”

Last year, Folksy Theatre enjoyed a successful national tour of Much Ado About Nothing.

The company was created in 2008 and tours rural areas throughout the UK and Ireland with various productions. They have a team of professional actors and directors who have a wide range of experiences in open air, in house and touring productions.

The play starts at 7.30pm. For more information visit folksytheatre.co.uk or call the centre on 01299 250513
