THE play that inspired PG Wodehouse’s novel Ring for Jeeves will be staged the Cleobury Players.

Come on Jeeves, by Guy Bolton in collaboration with PG Wodehouse, will be performed at the Lacon Childe School from Thursday to Saturday.

The play follows Jeeves, the famous, indomitable butler, who is on loan from Bertie Wooster, currently at school learning to look after himself.

Jeeves is on loan to Bill, the Earl of Towcester, who has secretly been earning a living as a bookie named Honest Patch Perkins with Jeeves acting as his clerk.

At first all went well but they run into trouble when Captain Biggar cops a big win and Bill must sell his house, the Abbey, to get money urgently.

His sister Lady Carmoyle brings a wealthy American lady Mrs Spottesworth to the Abbey to try and sell it to her for him.

Bill’s fiancée Jill misunderstands the relationship between Bill and Mrs Spottesworth and Jeeves has to try and smooth things over before things inevitably get out of hand.

Cleobury Players have been producing plays since 1976 and rehearse each week at the Methodist Hall in Cleobury Mortimer on Wednesdays.

They also attend professional and amateur productions to research the plays they would like to do in the future.
