TALES of mythical gods will come to life on stage at Bishops Wood Centre near Stourport.

Padvani 108 will perform a combination of stories, rhythm, song and stick-wielding in a live show designed to showcase bite-sized chunks of legend and myth in an entertaining way for the audience.

Epic adventures featuring Dionysus, Freya, Loki, Shiva and Odin will be told by a Ragi storyteller whose serious and funny interjections spur the narrative on, while music will be provided by an ad-hoc support band.

John Rhymer, secretary of the Friends of Bishops Wood, said: “We have hosted many storytelling and music events in the past and they have always been wonderful.

“We are very excited at the prospect of a performance that combines story and music.

“This promises to be a most amazing evening.”

Ben Haggarty, Emily Parrish, Dominic Kelly and Mikael Oberg will perform the show while live music will be played by Jonah Brody and Hannah Sanders.

A 2,000-year-old central Indian singing tradition inspired the production which performer Ben Haggarty described as “brash and exuberant” with “more experimental excitement than you can shake a stick at”.

He added the audience is set for “a high voltage mythological mash-up” that will be “noisy and bold” and “live and irresistibly direct”.

While much of the mythology in the show is not commonly known, the tales lie at the root of many popular fantasy films and literature such as Game of Thrones or The Hobbit.

The event will take place on Sunday (June 29) from 7.30pm to 8.45pm, and the storytelling is suitable for adults and young people aged 12 and above.

Tickets costs £4 and are available from Bishops Wood Centre on 01299 250513 or by email at bishopswoodcentre@worcestershire.gov.uk.
