A PLAY commemorating the declaration of the First World War will take place in Bewdley.

The performance, which tells the story of how the war affects the fictional Smith family of Bewdley, will take place on Monday, August 4 at 2pm at the Green Theatre in Jubilee Gardens and is presented by Bewdley Original Theatre.

Former Mayor of Kidderminster and current Wyre Forest District Council councillor Nigel Knowles wrote the play.

He said: “It portrays a local family dealing with the news that war has been declared.

“I am sure the audience will enjoy the references to local places such as churches and the Great Western Railway, the period costume and the drama and excitement of the story."

The play will be performed by Patrick Bentley, Helen Heeley, Charlotte Parsons, Anna Szygowska, Steve Perks and Paul Turner, and has been sponsored by Wyre Forest District Council, Bewdley Town Council, Dragon Leisure and The Cock and Magpie pub.

Entrance is free to the one act play, which lasts one hour, and audience members can bring a picnic and sit on the lawn.
