CELEBRATING their centenary with the same problem in 1916 as they have now, Kidderminster Operatic Society (KODS) are calling for male actors to join the cast of Evita.

Starting back in 1916 KODS staged its first show and since then has been entertaining the Wyre Forest public performing musicals, plays and concerts.

As with every year, KODS will perform its annual musical in March and for 2016 it’s a big one - Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical Evita.

This will be the first time this show has ever been performed by KODS and the first time by an amateur group in Worcestershire.

Evita is a musical that concentrates on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, the second wife of Argentine president Juan Perón. The story follows Evita's early life, rise to power, charity work, and eventual death.

The centenary year will be about celebrating KODS history and gathering memories from past members. But the society is also looking for new faces to get involved, especially men.

The patron of the society, Pat Scully, said: “Naturally in 1916 there was a shortage of male performers in their first production. Then as now we still have a shortage of male performers taking part so, we would love to hear from anyone who is looking for a chance to enjoy themselves on stage and to make new friends. As a society we have been told we're very friendly, so do get in touch."

Initial audition rehearsals will be on July 2 at New Meeting hall in Kidderminster with the show running from March 10 to 19 2016 at The Rose Theatre.

As well as the musical, KODS will be putting on numerous events to celebrate its 100-year history throughout 2016 including a Summer Centenary Ball at Kidderminster Town Hall on June 25.
