SUICIDE, murder and affairs will be depicted in a dark comedy to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a Blakedown theatre group this week.

Theatre 282 will perform Natural Causes – the work of playwright Eric Chappell – for three 7.30pm shows at Blakedown Parish Rooms between Thursday, June 16, and Saturday.

The play depicts the story of Walter Bryce, who attempts to work out who his unusual visitor is and what exactly he is carrying in his bag.

Audience members will be taken on a mysterious journey as Walter and Celia Bryce, assisted by Angie – Walter’s young secretary – reveal details of their lives, marriage and their unusual visitor.

David Jones, who has been a member of the group since 2000 and has seen more than 40 productions is expecting another night of laughter in the special anniversary show.

He said: "Being able to see so many of the group’s productions over the past 16 years has been a real privilege.

"I’ve been able to laugh and cry along with our audiences whilst watching and marvelling at the talent I see on the stage.

"Sadly, due to holiday commitments, this will be the first production that I won’t get to see since joining the group. But I visited rehearsals this evening to wish everyone a traditional ‘break a leg’!"

Theatre 282 have been entertaining audiences in Blakedown for the past 50 years, under their tag line: "We’ll make you laugh, we’ll make you cry".
