BISHOPS Wood Centre will host a quirky and engaging new play exploring the impact of windfarms on a rural community.

Three actor-musicians will tell the story of a fictional rural community and the conflicts caused by the proposed siting of a windfarm in its vicinity.

An exciting and innovative performance, Giants on the Hill - which will come to Bishops Wood Centre, in Stourport, on Thursday, November 24, from 7.30pm - is designed specifically for rural touring venues, with the show underpinned by a specially designed 'man-powered' soundscape.

In keeping with the subject matter, Centric is striving for the show to have a carbon neutral footprint, and is exploring ways for the performance to function 'off grid' with the team generating onstage pedal power energy for the show.

This new play set against the backdrop of the energy crisis and exploring its political and personal impact on a rural community. Bright acting, the clever use of live sound effects and soundscapes, and onstage pedal power electricity generation, underpin an unusually inventive show.

Giants on the Hill explores the debate about wind turbines and the urgent need to find sustainable energy sources.

Gill Frankling, centre manager, said: "Bishops Wood Centre is the ideal venue for this play. Our building was purpose designed to be energy efficient and we have our own wind turbine and solar panels.

"It will be interesting for our audience to explore whether wind turbines: are a valuable and sustainable way to shift how we provide our energy, or are they a financial liability and blight on our landscapes?

"The play is suitable for adults and children, aged 10-years upwards, so we hope that families and groups from schools will come along as well as adults who enjoy drama or who are interested in these important current issues."

Tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for over 65s, under 16s and members of the Friends of Bishops Wood. Advanced booking is essential.
