IT has been announced the much-loved children's favourite the Hungry Caterpillar will be munching its way to the Civic, in Stourport, in the summer.

Since it was first published in 1969, Eric Carle's iconic book the Hungry Caterpillar has nibbled its way into the hearts of millions of children, selling more than 43 copies worldwide.

The book captivated readers with colourful hand painted tissue paper collage illustrations and distinctively simple stories, introducing generations of children to a bigger, brighter world - and to their first experience of reading itself.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show features a menagerie of 75 enchanting puppets during a magical 60-minute show that faithfully adapts four of Eric Carle's best loved books for the stage - the Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, Mister Seahorse, the Very Lonely Firefly and, of course, the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

John Caldwell, from the Civic, in Stourport, said: "The Very Hungry Caterpillar will have been one of the first stories that was read to them, or they read themselves as children.

"And, for many in the audience, this will be their first experience of live theatre - watching a timeless classic brought to life so vividly in vibrant colours and larger than life puppets."

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show is adapted for the stage by director Jonathan Rockefeller, whose production sees four master puppeteers weave their way through Eric Carle's stories, bringing to life 75 magical puppets that faithfully recreate the wonderfully colour world of Carle's illustrations.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show will be performed at the Civic, in Stourport, on Friday, June 30, 2017, from 6pm.

Tickets - which are on sale now - will cost £10 each, or £35 for a group of four.
