A FEEL-good dancing show will be bursting onto the stage at Stourport’s the Civic, later this month.

Following last year’s great success with West Side Story, Limelight Productions are returning to the stage with the 1980’s classic, FAME - the Musical, about the thrills and spills encountered by students and staff at New York’s High School of Performing Arts.

A strong cast includes favourites from the company’s popular pantos, which packed Kidderminster’s Rose Theatre for several years, including Sam Wall as Nick, Scott Denton as Mr Sheinkopf, and Sadie Owen - also a well-known singer in the district - as Carmen.

Another former panto principal and leading light with the Kidderminster Operatic and Dramatic Society, Sarah Richards as Miss Ball. While her son, Daniel - dubbed the Most Promising Male in the recent Wyre Forest Dance Festival - takes on the role of Joe Vegas.

Leading lady is Kathryn Painter, also very well-known for her lead roles with local operatic societies, reprising the role of Serena and Doug Forrester takes on the role of Mr Myers.

An orchestra, led by musical director David Howles - who took the baton for West Side Story - will accompany the performers as they romp their way through the high-octane show.

Limelight Productions’ resident director and choreographer, Jane Bennett, is staging the show for the fourth time.

She said: “It is one of my favourites, such good fun, with great songs and exhilarating choreography.

“It really will make you want to pull out those legwarmers and dance on the roof of the car.”

FAME - the Musical, by Limelight Productions, runs at Stourport’s the Civic between Tuesday, April 25, and Saturday, April 29.

The show will be performed nightly at 7.30pm - with a 2pm matinee on the Saturday.
