Classy venue for Shakespeare play

AN open air performance of a Shakespeare play is being staged by one of Birmingham’s oldest theatre companies at a historic Wyre Forest venue.

The Crescent Theatre’s tour of The Taming of the Shrew reaches Harvington Hall tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

The play, one of Shakespeare’s earliest comedies, explores the sexual politics of marriage.

Petruchio, a new arrival in town, wins the unruly Kate’s hand in marriage and attempts to tame her temper, while Kate’s sister Bianca conducts a relationship with her secret lover Lucentio.

Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7pm and Sunday’s is at 3pm. Tickets should be booked in advance from www.crescent- theatre.co.uk or 01562 777846.

The gardens will be open from 5.30pm Friday and Saturday and from 11.30am Sunday for people to have picnics. Visitors should take their own chairs.
