New loos offer relief for shoppers
Feeling flushed: Marcus Hart, district council cabinet member, on the new toilet block site.
Feeling flushed: Marcus Hart, district council cabinet member, on the new toilet block site.

PEOPLE caught short in Kidderminster will be relieved to hear about a new £175,000 toilet block being built.

Work has already started on the new building on land in Market Street car park in the town centre, which is due to be finished by June.

The block will house three female cubicles, with one cubicle and a urinal for men.

There will also be baby changing facilities and a disabled toilet.

The work marks the third phase in investment by Wyre Forest District Council improving toilet facilities across the district.

Works have included extending the toilets at the Riverside, Stourport, upgrading the block in Brinton Park, Kidderminster and recruitment of extra cleaning staff.

Marcus Hart, Conservative cabinet member for property and operational services, said: "It is very important to provide good quality toilets to meet the needs of local residents, shoppers and of course, visitors.

"We are keen to encourage as many shoppers and businesses to the town centre as possible and good toilets should go some way to doing this."

Why on earth are we spending 175K building public toilets in a dying town centre? Every time I walk around the town I see more and more shops/bars etc closing and more and more boarded up buildings. I can not see how some expensive new toilets are going to bring people into the town, surely the money would be better spent reducing parking costs and encouraging development so high street retailers will invest in the town? In addition I am definitely not relieved that all this money is going to be spent on this as a tax payer I am disgusted this is what my hard earned cash is going to pay for!
