No political party has monopoly on health

IT was a great pleasure to recently bring Andrew Lansley MP, Conservative Shadow Secretary of State for Health, to visit the new Urgent Care Services at Kidderminster Hospital.

I feel it is incredibly important that the man who is responsible for formulating Conservative health policy has first-hand experience of Wyre Forest's issues. It is by bringing him here, to meet with staff and patients, that he can sense the real issues locally and factor them into his plans.

In his letter to the Shuttle, Howard Eeles very kindly highlights this visit and goes on to talk about all political parties working toward the same ultimate end.

He is, of course, absolutely correct in what he says - all political parties should (and do) work towards improving services at Kidderminster Hospital.

But in saying that, he makes an incredibly important point - no political party in Wyre Forest, or anywhere else, holds the monopoly on health issues.

I know that all of us work equally hard to improve health services locally, be they Parliamentary candidates, the MP, county councillors or district councillors.

Marcus Hart, Deputy Leader of the district council, is also the new chairman of the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee at County Hall and as such probably wields the greatest influence.

All of us are working for improved services, and Wyre Forest residents can be sure that I will continue to make sure Andrew Lansley and his team serve Wyre Forest well.
