A YOUNG book fan from Kidderminster was one of the many people at Merry Hill taking part in the launch of the centre's new book crossing project.

Three-year-old Mollie Cook and her mum were first in line to pick up a book from the shopping centre's designated book crossing zone in Starbucks.

The idea of the crossing is that people can leave a book they have read to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise.

When books are released into "the wild" by their owners, they are registered online, via a site called bookcrosssing.com. They can then be tracked on their travels worldwide as each new reader registers the book's collection and re-release.

As well as Starbucks, several other venues throughout Merry Hill, including Muffin Break, BB's Coffee and Muffins and the centre's management suite are now official book crossing zones, each vying to win a competition to create the best zone.
