Dedicated blood donors honoured

GENEROUS blood donors from Kidderminster have been honoured for their dedication to saving lives at an awards ceremony held by the National Blood Service.

Roy Hall, Gerald Ray and David Everett were each awarded a crystal decanter for giving an amazing 100 donations, while Michael Dyer, Andrew Oakley and Christopher Dunn were presented with a crystal plate each for giving 75 donations.

Mr Hall, who has been a donor for more than 40 years, said: "I feel it's important to help other people in need of blood and to tell friends and family how easy it is to go to sessions. Life is about giving, not taking."

The service's communications officer, Cathy Davies, said each blood donation could potentially save the lives of up to three people so those who had given 75 blood donations could have helped save up to 225 people.

"All our donors are special but it is a pleasure to thank our dedicated donors in this way," she added, "They continue to make time to donate come rain or shine and really are the lifeblood of our service."

The awards lunch took place at the Chateau Impney Hotel, Droitwich, with presentations by Sarajane Evans, who suffers from a rare blood disorder and needs 30 to 40 units of blood donations a year to stay well.
