Village church to be demolished

3:39pm Friday 16th May 2008

A VILLAGE church will be demolished to make way for two new houses.

Members of Wyre Forest District Council's planning development control committee last night voted in favour of the application by the trustees of Cookley Methodist Church.

The trustees explained that their current congregation was small and worshippers would now join the Anglican community in St Peter's Church.

Wolverley and Cookley parish council recommended approval of the application in Lionsfield Road.

Six letters of objection were received - only one to a revised scheme - arguing that the area could not sustain any more parking.

Case officer, Julia McKenzie-Watts, recommended the application for approval and said the development would have an "acceptable appearance".
