Scam targets people with surname Smith

PEOPLE with the surname Smith are being targeted by a scam claiming they may be due some inheritance from a relative.

Police are now warning residents to be vigilant after several people in Wyre Forest received the scam letter.

A police spokeswoman said: "We have had several letters bought to us all exactly the same, referring to a man called Arthur Smith who has died and had money invested in Hong Kong.

"They all seem to be addressed to someone with the surname Smith and suggest that they may be related to Arthur Smith and therefore entitled to a large sum of money.

“We believe that this letter is a scam and we would urge residents to take no action and to simply throw the letter away.”
