'Efficiency saves Wyre Forest council £110,000 in year in rubbish collection'

NEW rubbish and recycling efficiency measures are helping save council tax payers around £110,000 in a year Wyre Forest District Council has announced.
The council says it is making the savings following the introduction of its four-day working week and revised route planning.
The new way of working started in May this year and as well as making financial savings the authority says it has also succeeded in reducing waste and increasing recycling in the Wyre Forest area.
The refuse and recycling team at the council has calculated that 33.4 per cent of the total rubbish across the district had been recycled this quarter - a 4.2 per cent improvement on the previous quarter.
Conservative councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member for environmental services at the council, said: “We’re really pleased by the results of the changes implemented in May and the ongoing work from the past couple of years is making a significant difference to the amount we’re recycling.”
In addition to recycling improvements, the council said collection costs for each household had also improved, now costing a household under £40 a year for their total rubbish and recycling collections.
Jo Duffield, waste minimisation officer for the council, said: “The weekly cost per household is just 75p, which is less than the cost of a few basic household essentials.”
