THE “poor performance” of a train company which operates in Kidderminster has been raised in Parliament by Wyre Forest’s MP.

Several services run by London Midland have suffered from cancellations and delays during the last two months and about 350 services, including some in Kidderminster, have been affected in the last three weeks.

Conservative MP Mark Garnier told the House of Commons the situation was “unacceptable” and asked whether Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin would make a statement on how it could be resolved.

Mr Garnier said: “I am deeply concerned by the recent chronically poor performance of London Midland and will keep a close eye on this situation as it develops.

“It is not fair that my constituents’ lives are disrupted as a result of poor planning by London Midland. It is simply unacceptable.”

House of Commons leader Andrew Lansley said the Government was aware of the company experiencing a high level of cancellations but it was not yet technically in breach of their obligations.

“If improvements are not seen in very short order, the Department for Transport will need to consider taking action against the train operator,” he added.

A spokesman for London Midland said the service cancellations had been caused by driver shortages and a daily update of affected services was available on its website at londonmidland.com
